Electra 1969

Penny and I thought we had a great deal, in getting into Covent Garden @ only 15 shillings a seat. But we had no idea what the Upper Slips were. They turned out to be one row right up under the ceiling, at the stage end of the house. This meant that we could see only the front metre or two of the stage, and I think we had one glimpse of Birgit Nilsson. We could see Georg Solti and the orchestra very well, but it wasn't enough to keep us there for the whole show. The Slips seats are useful for music students who bring scores of the opera and study the performance from a musical rather than spectacular point of view.
